DEMPSEY QUICKEST AT STAR MAZDA TEST

Peter Dempsey was quickest at a two day test at Sebring (Florida) on the 7th and 8th of January 2008.

Dempsey was back in America with Andersen Racing for his first proper Star Mazda test at the renowned Sebring track. This would be the Ashbourne drivers real test to see where he can fit in when he takes on the American challenge of the Star Mazda Championship.

Having set a new track record at the Andersen Racing circuit on his first visit to America expectations were high for the test at Sebring and Dempsey duly delivered being quickest on both sets of tyres. The Championship will change from crossply tyres to radials for 2008.

It was not without some early concerns when Peter was 6 seconds off the pace at the start on old tyres and a bad handling car. Dempsey got to work with the team and turned it around to go quickest in the afternoon by .4 of a second. Unfortunately Peter missed his run on new tyres at the end of the day when it was red flagged due to a car going off and he ended up .1 of a second off at the end of the day.

“ I really did not know what to think at the start when I was 6 seconds off but I was delighted that we were able to turn the car around and go quickest. I am really looking forward to tomorrow”

Day two was a much better day for the Ashbourne driver as he now had a good handling car. Andersen Racing Team and Peter tried many different set up changes, they stayed on the crossply tyre as this was the tyre they had data for and Peter put in numerous fast laps during the day. Having set the quickest time of the two days by some margin they decided to try the radial tyres, hoping that they would not need to make many changes.

Dempsey went quickest on the radial tyres but felt that if he had more time to make some set up changes he would even have gone quicker.

“ I am delighted the way this test has gone, we did a lot of set up work and I am still learning the car and track. The team did a fantastic job and I must thank them. It is always nice to be quickest but I know I still have a lot of work to do.”
