Dempsey Disappointed with 4th Place

Peter Dempsey was disappointed with a 4th place finish at Miller Motorsport Park in Utah, America on Saturday 17th May 2008.
The Irish Young Driver of the Year runner up was quickest on both pre race test days in his Center Jewellers.ie / Quayside.ie sponsored car but struggled to find his pace in qualifying and the race. Having had such a good race the week before at Road Atlanta in a Formula Ford 2000 car, Peter was puzzled by his loss of pace.
Peter qualified only 6th on the grid for the race but was very concerned to be 1.3 seconds off the pace having been the quickest man in testing. Peter said “I am disappointed as my car felt quite good, the team got caught out when other teams used 2 sets of new tyres compared to our single set.The qualifying was changed to 45 minutesso our tyres were done by the time the car was light on feul. We will make sure this doesn't happen again and give ourselves an equel chance to eveyone else.”
At the start Peter made up some ground and got himself up to 3rd place but found himself under severe pressure from the drivers behind as it seemed his car did not have speed in a straight line. But Peter battled hard in the Centre Jewellers.ie / Quayside.ie car and finished 5th on the road but the driver just ahead of him got a 30 second penalty for blocking and this moved him up to 4th place.
“I am really disappointed with my result especially having been quickest in testing. I just seemed to get passed on the straights but I don’t know if that is me or a problem with the car, I will have to look at the data. It is not too bad as I am still 3rd in the Championship with my Andersen Racing Star Mazda car but I need a win soon”
Sponsors for this race at Miller Motorsport Park were Center Jewllers.ie and Quayside.ie
Peter’s next race is in Watkins Glen New York on the 7th of June
