DEMPSEY IMPRESSES IN FIRST INDY LIGHTS TEST
Added: 24th November 2008
Peter Dempsey had his first test in an Indy Lights car on Wednesday 19th November at Homestead Road Coarse where he tested with RLR/ Andersen Racing, the team who took him to 3rd in the Star Mazda championship with 4 wins and 7 other podiums including 2 new track records.
Dempsey, who is looking at competing in the Indy Lights Championship in 2009, had his first taste of the 450 bhp car and made the transition extremely well. He ran a different test program to the other teams yet was still capable of posting impressive lap times in only his first outing.
Quote - Peter Dempsey: "The test went extremely well. I had never driven a car like this before so it was all about getting seat time. It was great to get the opportunity to test the car and I would like to thank Dan and John Andersen for giving me the opportunity. I really enjoyed driving the car and considering the program we ran we were a lot closer to the pace than expected. We never got to run new tires and if we had everything 100% I feel we would have been right on pace with the front runners. I am really looking forward to driving in the series next year, so hopefully I can raise the budget."
Quote - Mike Reggio: "It was a good test for the team and being able to work with Peter, who I worked with all season in Star Mazda, made the test
run very well. He was up to speed quickly, and seemed at home in the car after only a few laps. In the limited amount of actual testing we were able to do, his feedback was able to help the team further understand the car. Given another day and some decent tires, our time's would have been significantly lower."
Peter now heads back to Ireland where he is currently being considered for the Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the Year Award. There will be a Lunch in Dublin on the 9th December where the winner will be announced. The €35,000 prize is presented by Dunlop and the Irish Sports council and gives young drivers the support to further their careers. Peter won the award previously in 2005 and was runner-up in 2007.
