Dempsey Back to Pastures Green in New Jersey

Peter Dempsey continues his quest for Star Mazda championship glory this weekend at the scene of one of his four series wins last season.

The reigning Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year lies second in the championship standings ahead of this weekend’s double header at New Jersey Motorsports Park, a circuit he clearly enjoys after last year’s victory.

Dempsey took the race win on Sunday last year and this weekend has two opportunities to repeat that success with AIM Autosport and add a further haul of points in the chase for title honours in the premier US training school for aspiring Indycar racers.

With 114 points on the board, a scant five off the championship lead, Peter is looking for another consistent run to keep his bid on track and will be looking for every opportunity to repeat last year’s success in New Jersey.

Dempsey heads to New Jersey in buoyant form following his runner up finish last time out in Utah following his victory in round two in Virginia.

“We’ve been quick and consistent so far and haven’t lost out too much from missing the tests in between races,” says Peter. “The AIM Autosport squad have been great in keeping us on target throughout the race weekends so I’m looking forward to going back to a track I know and like.

“It was really last minute getting this deal together to compete this weekend which meant we missed the Thursday test but AIM had good results here last year and I go well in New Jersey so I’m really up for it this weekend.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to Motorsport Ireland, Dunlop and the Irish Sports Council for their support which has been vital to my efforts this year as well as several other background helpers who are keeping the title bid on target.”

This weekend’s programme includes qualifying for race one on Friday afternoon followed by Saturday’s fourth round of the series at 2pm, 7pm, Irish time. Qualifying for round five takes place on Sunday morning with the race scheduled to start at 2pm, 7pm, Irish time.
