Dempsey Retains Series Lead After Mosport

Peter Dempsey retained the lead of the Star Mazda series after finishing fourth in round 11 at Mosport, Canada.

Having qualified fifth Dempsey finished one place behind his main title rival in what he described afterwards as a "solid" result.

Dempsey was fastest in Friday's final practice session ahead of qualifying for the 35-lap race at the former Canadian Formula One venue.

However, Dempsey and his Juncos crew struggled to find a perfect wet setup in Saturday morning qualifying with the Juncos Racing / The Collection / Motorsports Ireland supported machine and the reigning Dunlop Driver of the Year had to be content with fifth on the grid.

The Saturday afternoon race turned out to be a relatively uneventful one for Dempsey who held station behind the leaders throughout and saw one of his rivals drop back allowing his to move up to fourth.

Afterwards Dempsey expressed himself "reasonably satisfied" after scoring 34 more valuable points for his title assault.

"It wasn't our weekend but we dragged a half decent result out of it and we've kept the lead of the championship which is the main thing," said the Ashbourne, Co Meath native.

"We struggled to get good speed out of the car in qualifying and it's tough to make up positions in the race with the championship being so competitive
"Still, we're still in the right position in the points standings and I’m looking forward to another strong outing at the next round in Road Atlanta where I was on pole last year."

Dempsey and his Juncos crew have almost a month to prepare for the penultimate round of the series in Road Atlanta, Georgia on September 25th.

Next Round: Road Atlanta, September 25th.
